BACKGROUND
Virunga National Park since its inception in 1925 and through different situations, among other violation of its limits in some places, the establishment of military training centre, the extraordinary population growth of the population in the immediate vicinity of the park, the presence of different groups armed in and around the park and its use by those in power as an object of propaganda, all these facts led the founders of the IDPE organize together in order to carry out actions not conducive to the conservation of animals and their habitat.

ACTIVITIES OF THE IDPE
• Raising awareness through the media, advocacy and lobbying.
• The fight against poaching and trafficking of baby primates and other specimens.
• Introduction to the surrounding population of PNVi the agro-pastoral activities.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS

In 2007 the IDPE had rescued a baby gorilla which tin for sale by a colonel in the FARDC in Goma.



 

In 2008 the IDPE organized a march in the city of Goma against the slaughter of animals by soldiers of the FARDC in PNVi.

 

In 2008 the IDPE installed community radio (Radio Virunga) in the fishery Vitshumbi.

In 2008 the IDPE organized a mobile veterinary clinic for the vaccination of animals of the surrounding population of Virunga National Park
